Brian Bagdonas

Brian Bagdonas

Pre-Press, Press Operator, Founder-Owner-Worker

Since first getting his hands inky in the early '90s at a small printshop in his Ohio home town, Brian has enjoyed laying ink down for jobs big or small, plain or fancy. He is continually inspired and humbled by the ancient craft that brings ink and paper together, and feels like there is always a new trade secret to learn and ink mix to explore while on the path to crafting the kind of printing that might just become a keepsake for generations.

Rebecca Gilbert

Rebecca Gilbert

Job Manager, Press Operator, Founder-Owner-Worker

I am inspired by the sight of words imprinted on the surface of paper, the touch of type in one’s hand, the smell of the ink, the sound of the press in motion, the taste of ideas ... the way that printing engages all our senses while preserving the beauty of the experience in a way that can be shared.

Eric Bagdonas

Eric Bagdonas

Founder/co-owner, Printer, Occasional admin person, Offset printing coordinator

Independent publishing projects led me to discover a love for traditional printing. Zine, chapbook, and 7" record jacket work introduced me to the tradition of small format offset printing in particular. It was the love of those amazing machines and the admiration I felt for the printers I met, whose ingenuity, resourcefulness and skill made these presses produce truly beautiful work, that inspired me to take the steps to become a printer in the 1990s.
Home State Ohio
Moved to Oregon I moved to Portland in 1996. What initially drew me to Portland was its incredible independent music and zine scene, but also a good friend convinced me that one could do well here living a car-free lifestyle. He said "you can jump on your bike and pedal your way to the middle of an old growth forest within a few hours." I was sold.
Favorite Portland Neighborhood I live in the Woodlawn neighborhood with my wife, our two cats, one lonely chicken, and a shed and basement full of functioning and partially assembled bicycles
Other interests besides printing

Playing, listening to, and learning about music is still a big part of my life, I love exploring the outdoors and history of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, I enjoy fiddling with bicycles, wheel building, and bike commuting/bike touring. Occasional collector of printing ephemera and publications, part time organizer of the Every Sunday Square Dance, appreciator of Portland's good food and drink, farmers markets, and craft culture.

Shipping & Receiving

At Stumptown Printers I get to combine my love of mail with my admiration for traditional printing methods! Even though I'm not involved in the print production in the shop, I love being around the work–the sights, sounds, and products of the machines are always encouraging me to stay creative and find new projects and mediums.

Zeyneb Akel

Zeyneb Akel

Post Press, Print Sample Specialist

While exploring art classes at Portland State University, Zeyneb found herself in a relief print making class. As soon as she guided her engraving tool across the wood block, she realized that she found a piece of the puzzle that brought together her interests in visual arts with the meditative physical process of carving. She enrolled in as many printmaking classes as she could manage and completed an internship with a local print making artist. She was hooked. She earned a BFA in Art Practices and a BA in Printmaking with a Photography minor. Zeyneb brings her meticulous eye and patient hand to her work here at the shop, and her positive attitude allows her to imagine that the loud warning beep produced by the 2 color Hamada printing press sounds like a song bird.
